Dacor Appliance Repair in Palos Verdes & the South Bay
Dacor ranges, wall ovens, cooktops, and dishwashers.
Dacor was founded in Pasadena in 1965 and spent five decades as a small American builder of luxury ranges, wall ovens and cooktops for California kitchens. Samsung acquired it in 2016. Practically, that means the badge in your kitchen now covers two different engineering generations: pre-acquisition units built around relay boards and discrete igniters, and current units running Samsung control electronics and connectivity. Which generation you own determines the fault behavior, the parts path, and what we can honestly promise before we drive out.
Two Dacors share one badge: Pasadena-built and Samsung-built
Dacor spent its first fifty years as an independent Pasadena manufacturer, and equipment from that era is built the way American cooking appliances were built: relay boards switching discrete loads, spark modules and hot-surface igniters, thermostats and probes a meter reads directly, mechanical door latches. After 2016 the electronics changed hands. Newer ranges, ovens and cooktops run Samsung control architecture, with communicating boards, capacitive glass panels and network connectivity. The cabinetry and design language carried over; the failure behavior did not. Model and serial on the rating plate settle which generation you own, and that answer decides everything downstream, including whether the board you need is still in production.
Ovens that heat but drift off setpoint on older relay-board controls
Spark and hot-surface ignition failures on pre-acquisition ranges
Dead zones or total loss of response on newer capacitive glass panels
Stored fault codes on Samsung-platform boards with no visible symptom at the appliance
App pairing and connectivity that stops working after a router or network change
Dual fuel was Dacor's bet, and it puts two systems in one chassis
Dacor built heat first and built it in small numbers: dual-fuel and all-gas ranges, wall ovens, rangetops, cooktops and ventilation. The company was an early and persistent champion of dual fuel, a gas cooktop over an electric oven, and that choice packs two unrelated systems into one appliance. A gas train with sealed burners, igniters and safety valves sits above a resistive oven with elements, a convection motor and thermal cutoffs, sharing a frame, a harness and often a single control. Half the range failing while the other half cooks normally is the ordinary presentation here, not a strange one, and the halves follow different diagnostic rules.
Gas surface burners working normally while the electric oven will not heat, or the reverse
Sealed burners that light but will not hold a stable low simmer
Convection ovens browning unevenly from rack to rack
Downdraft and hood ventilation stuck at one speed or ignoring the controls
One failed control affecting both the gas and electric halves of a dual-fuel range
The refrigeration line came with Samsung, not from Pasadena
Dacor sold cooking equipment for most of its history; built-in refrigeration is the newer part of the catalog and it arrived on Samsung engineering. Column refrigerators and freezers wearing the Dacor badge use inverter compressors, board-managed defrost and electronically controlled dampers and evaporator fans, so they behave like premium Samsung refrigeration rather than like anything Dacor built in Pasadena. A South Bay kitchen assembled over two remodels can easily hold a pre-acquisition Dacor range and a Samsung-platform Dacor column at the same time. We treat those as two separate machines that happen to match, and we say which is which before quoting either one.
Built-in columns not holding set temperature despite a running compressor
Defrost faults showing as gradual warming rather than a hard failure
Inverter compressor behavior misread as normal cycling, or the reverse
Evaporator airflow and damper problems that mimic a sealed-system fault
Refrigeration and cooking appliances in one kitchen needing two different diagnostic approaches
We are an independent South Bay shop. We are not a Dacor dealer and not a Samsung service partner, and we take no warranty work for either; the Dacor name on this page simply says what equipment we work on. Because the brand changed hands in 2016, that distinction matters more here than on most brands, since a newer unit may still be inside factory coverage. If yours is, use Dacor's own channels first. Call us when that warranty has run out, or when you would rather deal directly with the technician who will be standing in your kitchen.
Dacor repair questions
More than it would on most brands. The rating plate sits behind the kick panel on a range, inside the oven door frame on a wall oven, or along the upper cabinet rail on a column. Model and serial tell us which generation the appliance belongs to, and the generation tells us whether we are coming to meter a relay-board machine or to interrogate Samsung control electronics. Call (424) 365-9555, read them to us, and we can usually describe the likely parts picture before we schedule anything.
The first visit is a diagnosis and it carries a charge. You get a written price before any repair begins; approve that repair and let us finish it and the diagnostic charge comes off the total, and if the appliance beats us you owe nothing. On a Dacor, a real part of that diagnosis is establishing whether the control your unit needs is current Samsung production or discontinued pre-2016 stock. We would rather tell you that at the quote than after you have paid for a part.
Not automatically. Mechanical and consumable parts for pre-2016 Dacor, burners, valves, igniters, elements, thermostats, fans and door hardware, are largely still obtainable, so most faults on an older range are ordinary repairs. Obsolete control and relay boards are the genuine constraint: options narrow to rebuild services or salvaged stock, and occasionally to nothing. We establish which situation you are in during diagnosis and say so plainly, rather than ordering hopefully and leaving your kitchen down for weeks.
For anything still under factory warranty, yes, go through Dacor and Samsung's own channels. We hold no authorization from either company and do not present ourselves as holding one, so in-warranty work is not ours to take. Out of warranty, the ownership history matters to us purely as engineering, because it tells us which control platform is inside the appliance. What we offer is the technician you hired doing the work, a price agreed in writing first, and a 90-day warranty on what we complete.
No. The range descends from Dacor's own cooking engineering, gas and electric heat with the diagnostics that belong to it. The refrigeration is Samsung sealed-system and control design wearing a Dacor badge, so we approach it as premium Samsung refrigeration: inverter compressor behavior, defrost control, damper position and evaporator airflow. Both can be covered in a single visit, but they are two distinct diagnostic jobs and we price them separately rather than lumping them together.
Rick has nine-plus years in luxury built-in cooking and refrigeration; Oleg has twelve-plus years and the widest brand range on our team. Between them, both Dacor generations are covered, the Pasadena-built machines and the Samsung-platform ones. We work out of Rancho Palos Verdes across the South Bay, with more than 18,000 completed jobs behind us and a 90-day warranty on every repair we finish.
