GE ovens fail in predictable ways, and they split cleanly by fuel type. On electric models, the bake and broil elements simply burn out — sometimes with a visible spark and a blistered spot, sometimes quietly. On gas models, the glow igniter weakens with age until it can no longer open the gas valve, so the oven lights late or not at all. And on both, the self-clean cycle has a reputation for taking out the control board and jamming the door lock.
We diagnose first and hand you a written quote before any work begins. Approve the repair and the service call fee is waived when we complete it; if the oven turns out to be unfixable, you pay nothing. Across 18,000+ completed jobs, GE ranges and wall ovens are territory we know well.
GE electric oven not heating
The bake element is the most common failure on electric GE ovens. It often announces itself — a pop, a bright spark, a blistered or broken spot on the element — but it can also just stop glowing. The broil element fails the same way. An element that shorts against the oven cavity can trip the breaker, which sends some owners chasing an electrical problem that's really a ten-dollar diagnosis. We test both elements for continuity and check the terminals and wiring behind them.
GE gas oven not lighting or heating slowly
GE gas ovens use a glow igniter that weakens gradually. A worn igniter still glows orange — which is why it fools people — but it no longer draws enough current to open the safety gas valve. The result is an oven that waits a long time before lighting, lights on some tries and not others, preheats slowly, or swings in temperature mid-bake. Replacing the igniter and verifying the valve responds correctly resolves the whole cluster of symptoms.
GE oven door locked after self-clean
Self-clean runs the oven far hotter than any baking cycle, and that heat soaks into exactly the wrong places: the door latch assembly and the control board above the cavity. The classic GE aftermath is a door that stays locked once everything cools, a display that's dead or scrambled, or a blown thermal fuse that cuts power to the controls entirely. We release the latch without forcing the door, then test the lock motor, its switches, the fuse, and the board to find what the heat actually damaged.
Independent GE service, tested before quoted
PV Appliance Repair is an independent, insured service company — we are not affiliated with or certified by GE, and we never present ordinary trade experience as factory authorization. What you get instead: a technician tests the actual failure, explains the finding, and gives you a written quote before any work starts. The service call is waived when you approve and complete the repair, and if we can't fix it, you don't pay. Every completed repair carries a 90-day warranty on the documented work and installed part.
