Most washers spin the drum with a belt off a conventional motor. LG bolts a brushless rotor to the drum shaft, puts the stator behind the tub, and reads rotor position continuously with hall sensors. Refrigeration applies the same thinking to compression: instead of a rotary compressor turning a crank, a piston runs on a spring resonance and modulates capacity rather than cycling on and off.
