LG's linear compressor was a real engineering departure — a piston driven electromagnetically instead of by a rotary crank — and on many 2014–2019 refrigerators it's also why the unit stopped cooling years sooner than it should have. Add evaporator fan icing on models where the defrost cycle falls behind, and the two most common LG failures both begin with the same phone call: it's running, but it's warm.
Those two failures need very different repairs at very different prices, so we don't guess. We check compressor operation, read the frost pattern on the evaporator, and test the fan and defrost circuit — then put the actual cause on a written quote before anyone touches the sealed system.
LG refrigerator not cooling but compressor running
A linear compressor can lose capacity gradually — running almost nonstop while temperatures creep up over weeks. This is the well-known weak point of the 2014–2019 generation, but we confirm it with temperature and frost-pattern checks before condemning it, because a failed evaporator fan or defrost fault mimics the symptom at a fraction of the repair cost.
LG freezer cold but fridge section warm
On most LG models a single evaporator in the freezer cools both compartments, with a fan and damper pushing cold air up to the fresh-food side. When that fan ices over or the damper sticks shut, the freezer keeps working while the fridge climbs into unsafe territory. A failed defrost heater or defrost sensor lets the ice build until airflow stops entirely.
LG ice maker not making ice
Ice production is the first thing to quit when a refrigerator loses cooling capacity, so an idle ice maker is sometimes a compressor or icing problem wearing a disguise. When the cooling checks out, the search moves to the water side — the inlet valve, a frozen fill tube, or the ice maker assembly itself.
LG refrigerator clicking, buzzing, or louder than usual
Repeated clicking with a warm interior usually means the compressor is trying to start and failing. A rhythmic scraping or chirping from inside the freezer is typically the evaporator fan blade clipping frost buildup — a defrost problem announcing itself before the temperatures do.
Independent LG service, tested before quoted
PV Appliance Repair is an independent, insured service company — we are not affiliated with or certified by LG, and we never present ordinary trade experience as factory authorization. What you get instead: a technician tests the actual failure, explains the finding, and gives you a written quote before any work starts. The service call is waived when you approve and complete the repair, and if we can't fix it, you don't pay. Every completed repair carries a 90-day warranty on the documented work and installed part.
