Thermador's patented Star burner spreads flame through star-shaped ports instead of a round ring, and that geometry changes how the cooktop fails and how it has to be serviced. Each burner's igniter sits in a specific position relative to the star points, the ports clog differently than round burners, and because every igniter feeds off a shared spark module, one cracked igniter can drag the whole circuit down — which is why a single boil-over sometimes leaves every burner clicking.
Our approach is to isolate before replacing: disconnecting igniters from the spark module one at a time shows whether the fault is a cracked igniter, moisture in a burner base, or the module itself. It takes a few extra minutes and regularly saves the cost of a module that was never bad.
Thermador cooktop clicking constantly or won't stop sparking
Continuous clicking after the flame is lit almost always means the spark circuit sees a path to ground it shouldn't — a hairline crack in an igniter's ceramic, moisture under a burner cap after cleaning or a boil-over, or a chafed igniter wire. Because the circuit is shared, the noisy burner is not necessarily the faulty one, which is exactly why guessing at parts fails on these cooktops.
Thermador Star burner sparks but won't light
If you can hear the spark but the burner won't catch, gas isn't reaching the spark point — on a Star burner that's often clogged ports near the igniter or a burner cap seated slightly off, since the star shape only lights reliably when cap and base are aligned. A weak orange spark instead of a sharp blue one points back at the igniter or module instead.
All burners on a Thermador cooktop stopped working at once
Every burner failing together points upstream of the burners themselves: the spark module, the power supply to it, or the gas shutoff. On models with a reignition feature, a failed module can also kill flames mid-cooking, which owners often mistake for a gas supply problem.
