Thermador wall ovens are Bosch-engineered, which means the control electronics do a lot of watching: a temperature sensor feeds the board constantly, and when its resistance drifts even slightly out of spec, you get slow preheat and uneven baking long before anything fails outright. The motorized door lock is another weak point with a pattern to it — self-clean runs the cavity far hotter than any bake cycle, and that heat is hard on the latch motor and the small switches that tell the board the door is secure.
We diagnose from the evidence, not the symptom description. That means pulling the stored error history, measuring the sensor's actual resistance against spec, and testing the latch motor and board relays directly — so the part we quote is the part that failed, in writing, before any work starts.
Thermador oven not heating or slow to preheat
A Thermador that takes forever to reach temperature usually has a sensor problem, not an element problem — the board throttles heating when the sensor reading disagrees with reality. When an element does fail, it is often only one circuit, so broil may work fine while bake struggles, and convection models add a fan that has to circulate for the cavity to heat evenly.
Thermador oven door locked after self-clean
The lock is supposed to release once the cavity cools, but that release depends on a chain of parts working: the latch motor, its position switches, and the sensor confirming the oven is cool. If any link fails during or after the extreme heat of a self-clean cycle, the board keeps the door locked as a safety measure — forcing it open usually breaks the latch assembly and turns a small repair into a bigger one.

An E-code identifies a circuit, not a single component — the same code can mean the sensor itself, a wiring connection, or the board that reads it. We test each point in that circuit rather than replacing the most expensive part first, because on Bosch-engineered controls the boards are often fine and the fault sits in a cheaper component upstream.
Thermador steam and convection mode problems
Steam models add a water system — reservoir, boiler, and temperature control — that hard water is rough on, and scale buildup shows up as weak steam output or steam-mode errors. Convection complaints are usually the fan motor or its control, and you notice them as uneven browning between racks rather than a dead oven.
