Thermador built-in refrigeration depends on airflow more than most refrigerators: cold air is generated at the evaporator and moved between sections through narrow ducts, so the design has little tolerance for a blocked vent, a stalled fan, or the frost that follows a defrost failure. That's why the classic Thermador complaint is one section warming while another runs perfectly — the cooling system is alive, but the air isn't getting where it needs to go.
We open the panel and look at the evaporator first, because its frost pattern tells the truth: a full, even coat means a defrost problem, a bare or partial coat points to sealed-system or airflow trouble. From there it's thermistor readings and fan and defrost-circuit tests, and only then a written quote.

When the freezer holds temperature but the fresh food section climbs, the cold is being made but not delivered — an evaporator iced over from a failed defrost cycle, an evaporator fan that quit, or a blocked air path between sections. Overpacking against the vents produces the same symptom, which is one reason we check airflow before condemning any part.

Frost on the back wall or ice sheeting under a freezer floor means moisture is getting in or defrost water isn't getting out. A worn door gasket or a door held ajar by the built-in cabinetry lets humid air feed frost continuously, while a failed defrost heater or a clogged drain lets each cycle's meltwater refreeze where it stands.

Ice production fails at one of three points: water delivery, freezing, or harvest. A restricted fill valve or frozen fill tube starves the mold, a freezer section running even slightly warm slows production to nothing, and a failed harvest mechanism leaves a full mold that never dumps — three different repairs that all look identical from the outside as an empty bin.
Thermador refrigerator running constantly or getting loud
A built-in that never cycles off is compensating for something — condenser coils blanketed in dust, a fan losing bearings, or an air leak at a door seal. The louder it gets, the more likely a fan motor is on its way out, and catching it early is much cheaper than the compressor damage that months of nonstop running can cause.
