Thermador Built-In Refrigerator Repair in the South Bay

Warm sections, frost on the back wall, and dead ice makers in built-in columns and bottom-freezer units — found at the evaporator, not guessed at from the front.

Thermador built-in refrigeration depends on airflow more than most refrigerators: cold air is generated at the evaporator and moved between sections through narrow ducts, so the design has little tolerance for a blocked vent, a stalled fan, or the frost that follows a defrost failure. That's why the classic Thermador complaint is one section warming while another runs perfectly — the cooling system is alive, but the air isn't getting where it needs to go.

We open the panel and look at the evaporator first, because its frost pattern tells the truth: a full, even coat means a defrost problem, a bare or partial coat points to sealed-system or airflow trouble. From there it's thermistor readings and fan and defrost-circuit tests, and only then a written quote.

Thermador refrigerator warm but freezer still cold

When the freezer holds temperature but the fresh food section climbs, the cold is being made but not delivered — an evaporator iced over from a failed defrost cycle, an evaporator fan that quit, or a blocked air path between sections. Overpacking against the vents produces the same symptom, which is one reason we check airflow before condemning any part.

Evaporator iced over from a defrost failure
Evaporator fan motor not running
Blocked air duct or damper between sections
Vents obstructed by food packed against them
Thermistor misreporting the section temperature

Frost or ice buildup inside a Thermador refrigerator

Frost on the back wall or ice sheeting under a freezer floor means moisture is getting in or defrost water isn't getting out. A worn door gasket or a door held ajar by the built-in cabinetry lets humid air feed frost continuously, while a failed defrost heater or a clogged drain lets each cycle's meltwater refreeze where it stands.

Failed defrost heater or defrost sensor
Clogged defrost drain refreezing meltwater
Worn or compressed door gasket
Door alignment letting the seal gap open

Thermador ice maker not making ice

Ice production fails at one of three points: water delivery, freezing, or harvest. A restricted fill valve or frozen fill tube starves the mold, a freezer section running even slightly warm slows production to nothing, and a failed harvest mechanism leaves a full mold that never dumps — three different repairs that all look identical from the outside as an empty bin.

Frozen or restricted water fill tube
Failed water inlet valve
Freezer section not cold enough to cycle ice
Harvest motor or control fault
Clogged water filter starving the fill

Thermador refrigerator running constantly or getting loud

A built-in that never cycles off is compensating for something — condenser coils blanketed in dust, a fan losing bearings, or an air leak at a door seal. The louder it gets, the more likely a fan motor is on its way out, and catching it early is much cheaper than the compressor damage that months of nonstop running can cause.

Dust-clogged condenser coils
Condenser or evaporator fan bearing wear
Air leak at a gasket forcing long run times
Sensor fault preventing normal cycling

Independent Thermador service, tested before quoted

PV Appliance Repair is an independent, insured service company — we are not affiliated with or certified by Thermador, and we never present ordinary trade experience as factory authorization. What you get instead: a technician tests the actual failure, explains the finding, and gives you a written quote before any work starts. The service call is waived when you approve and complete the repair, and if we can't fix it, you don't pay. Every completed repair carries a 90-day warranty on the documented work and installed part.
